We are pleased to announce the availability of Postbox BETA 12. In addition to performance and stability enhancements, this release introduces several new features that make searching even easier:
- Search by Location - You can now set your search location within the pop-down menu that appears when you enter a search term. You can choose to search within your current folder, or search everywhere across all accounts.
- Search History - Suggestions from your search history appear as you type, similar to the web history that displays in your browser’s URL bar.
- Search by Sender - Information about the sender of a message is now summarized in the Inspector Pane, along with convenient ways to search for messages, attachments, images and links from each sender.
Please see our release notes to learn more about the other changes we made in this release, and please keep telling your friends, family and co-workers about Postbox!

The Postbox BETA 11 release contains a number of performance and memory utilization improvements for the Postbox indexer. The indexer looks within email messages for interesting content, and then adds everything it finds to a searchable database. Around the office, we affectionately call our indexer “The Hammer”, because it powers many of the new features in Postbox.
For long indexing operations on Windows Vista, initial tests indicate that the BETA 11 indexer uses about 75%-85% less memory, and indexes about 3 times faster than BETA 10.*

We’re excited by this first round of optimizations to “The Hammer”, and we look forward to continued improvements in future updates.

* As with any performance or memory test, your mileage will vary depending on hardware, memory, message sizes, operating system, etc. Our test scenario measured the difference between BETA 10 and 11, and was run using the following:
- MacBook Pro with 4 GB of RAM running Windows Vista
- Sample data set of 36,000 messages previously downloaded and stored locally
- Indexing performed while Postbox was in offline mode
- Memory measured using the Windows Vista resource monitor tool

The Postbox BETA 10 release primarily focuses on improvements suggested by our beta testers, including a highly requested feature - custom signature support.
Here’s how it works:
- Signatures are located in the Compose Sidebar on the right-hand side of a new message window.
- Click the Add Signature button at the bottom of the Compose Sidebar to create a new signature. Add or drop in any content, including images. Your new signature is now ready to use. Create as many signatures as you like.
- To insert the signature into your message just double-click it. Double-click another signature to replace your current one.
- To set up a default signature for an account, go to Tools menu and selecting Account Settings.
Please see our release notes to see the other changes we made in this release, and be sure to keep submitting your ideas and thoughtful feedback. We read each and every suggestion.

Thanks to everyone who provided feedback on our first public beta three weeks ago. Your ideas and submissions have really helped to guide the direction of Postbox 1.0b8, which is now available for download.
Here’s what’s new in this release:
- Improved Conversation View - Postbox will now automatically gather messages from other folders when viewing messages by conversation. (You can also set a preference to only display messages within the current folder, see: Preferences | Display tab.) To see an expanded view of all messages within a conversation, click the “Show All” button.
- Quick Look - For Mac 10.5 users, you can now preview attachments and photos using Apple’s Quick Look technology. Select an attachment or photo and press the spacebar to Quick Look, or press the Quick Look button in the Action Bar.
- Flickr Integration - You can now use the Compose Sidebar to search for and share links to photos from your Flickr account.
- Hotmail Support - Hotmail POP account setup is now supported within the new account wizard.
- Other Mac Improvements - More information in Growl alerts, improved notification for unread messages in the Dock, and keyboard shortcut hints in application menus.
- Performance and Reliability Improvements - See our release notes to review the most recent changes.
Please continue to submit your ideas and thoughtful feedback, as we’re already setting our sights on the next release. And be sure to tell your friends, family, and co-workers about Postbox!

Today, we’re pleased to announce the public beta of Postbox, a new desktop email application that helps you make the most of your email messages and content.
To start, a gigantic “thank you!” to everyone who participated in the private beta. We had over 10,000 people sign up, and we’ve been absolutely thrilled with the thoughtfulness and detail of the feedback we’ve received.
Turns out, people really care about their email! And it’s no surprise given how much time we spend each day writing, reading, and searching through messages. What we didn’t anticipate was just how desperate people were for solutions to help them make sense of it all.
Our goal is simple: to help you be more productive and successful by providing the best email experience possible. And this first beta is just the beginning, as we have lots more planned for future betas, the 1.0 release, the 2.0 release, and beyond.
So please keep the great feedback coming in, and please be sure to tell your co-workers, family and friends about Postbox.
Best,
The Postbox Team
